Summary:  Summer MaKorra prompt: Nervous

She stood in the changing room completely dressed.
Her hair was down in loose curls that cascaded down her back and her bangs were pinned back. Her dress, a deep red color, was completely out of her element. It was held back by two straps that tied at the back of her neck, but sunk low in the neckline and left her back mostly exposed, it stopped at her knees and left her smooth legs just as bare. Being from the South Pole and almost always completely covered, she felt naked.

Korra's reflection betrayed her, she didn't look like herself. Why did she have to be at the stupid Fire Nation coming out ball thing? Oh right, she was the Avatar. The Avatar, who was wearing makeup and dressed to the nines and was the reason for the celebration.

Asami had dressed her, encouraging her that she looked beautiful and looked the part of the fire nation.  Royal even.  Asami had worked on calming her nerves, but it wasn't helping. If anything, next to the Sato heiress, Korra felt that she looked like a pauper, who was dressed in a fashionable black dress with her hair pulled back tightly. Korra closed her eyes and breathed, wondering if any of her past lives had been like this.

She heard footsteps, but didn't turn around. The owner of the footsteps gasped when he saw her, she knew by his feet against the floor that it was Mako, it must be the earth bender inside of her. "Wow, Korra." He said quietly.

Korra looked up in the mirror suddenly flushed. "I don't look like myself." She squeaked.

Mako smiled and closed in on her, snaking an arm around her waist and hugging her to his side. "You look beautiful." He whispered into her ear, resting his forehead against the side of her head.  With a shaky breath she nodded, she truly believed him. "Come on, they are waiting for you."

He led her from the safety of her changing room down a long hallway. How could he be so calm in this situation? It couldn't be easy to escort the Avatar in these sorts of things and she was slightly jealous of his calm demeanor. Her palms were sweating and her ears were ringing, she didn't want to ruin all the hard work that was put into the ball and she wanted to make a good impression on the Fire Lord, daughter of Fire Lord Zuko and friend to her past life.

Her breathing grew shallow and the room started to darken as they reached the two very large doors that separated them from the fire nation. Her hand looped through his and a calming hand went on top of hers and she was grateful that he was the one standing with her. His serious demeanor and good looks made him a perfect candidate for her escort, unlike Bolin who would search for the lime light and eventually wander away, Mako took the job seriously.

Mako had always been her corner stone and weight bearer, he looked good in his suit and he was the poster child for confidence. The doors opened and she was sure that she was shaking. Horns blew and the room stopped moving as a million pairs of eyes looked at the pair of them as they were announced. "Avatar Korra of the Southern Water Tribe and Mako of Republic City." Said the official voice.

He moved to step forward and she froze. He smiled down on her before leaning close to whisper in her ear. "Don't be nervous." He whispered, his warm breath on his cheek. "You look beautiful." He pressed his lips to her cheek and it calmed her nervousness.

He led her down the stairs with a promise that he wouldn't let her do anything wrong. With a deep breath her hand slid from his arm and into his hand, at which she gained a firm squeeze as they took the red carpet up to the Fire Lord and her husband. The woman had straight long black hair, about Tenzin's age and ember eyes that lit up as she neared her. "Korra, I have been waiting a very long time to meet you."
